Tire collection event

The Kitsap County Solid Waste Division is hosting a free waste tire collection event. This event is for households only. Limit 15 tires per household.

When: Monday, June 15, 2026, and Tuesday, June 16, 2026, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

Where: Kitsap County Fairgrounds Thunderbird Arena - lot behind arena. 1275 Fairgrounds Rd. NW, Bremerton WA 98311

No businesses or organizations. Businesses and organizations should hire a licensed tire carrier to manage their waste tires.

Funding for this event is provided by Ecology’s waste tire program. Because the event depends on state funding, we cannot guarantee it will be offered every year. The best way to dispose of your tires is to leave them behind for a small fee at a tire shop when purchasing new tires.

Thank you to the Kitsap Fair and Stampede Association for donating the venue.

Vessel Turn-In Recycling Event

What is the Vessel Turn-In recycling event?

It's a free vessel turn-in event. If you have a vessel that is falling apart, and you don’t know what to do with it, apply for this summer’s Vessel Turn-In event. The program will properly dispose of your vessel with the goal of recycling a majority of the materials. The Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) is managed by DNR to help prevent boats from becoming derelict or abandoned and to keep pollution out of our marine waters.

Who can participate?
Participation is open to anyone who is a WA resident and has proof of ownership or the legal authority to dispose of the vessel.

Steps to participate:

  1. Fill out and notarize DNR’s Vessel Turn-In application and submit it by May 31, 2026, to get pre-approved.
  2. Email your completed application, proof of ownership, and photos of your vessel to:
dvrp@dnr.wa.gov, and include “Kitsap Vessel Turn-In Event” in the subject line.
  3. Prior approval is required for this event. Space will be limited and filled in the order applications are received and approved.
Vessels 34 feet or less in length will be accepted.
Vessels 35 feet or larger will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

If you cannot drop off your vessel at the specified location, transportation can be coordinated.

Application assistance:
Kitsap County is offering VTIP application assistance during specific open hours or by appointment. For more information about application assistance, visit Kitsap’s abandoned and derelict vessel removal program webpage, or contact Kitsap1 by phone 360.337.5777 or email at help@kitsap1.com.

Free compost giveaway event

Where: Kitsap County Fairgrounds - Thunderbird Arena, 1275 Fairgrounds Rd. NW, Bremerton, WA 98311

Limit per household: Each household can take up to 100 gallons (about 1/2 cubic yard of compost).

Prepare before you go:

  • Bring your own buckets, shovels, and gloves.

  • Visitors must load the compost themselves into their vehicle without staff assistance.

  • Secure your vehicle load for safer roads with tarps and nets. It's the law, and the right thing to do.

What makes this compost so special? It comes from your and your neighbor’s curbside food and yard waste carts! Once WM or Bainbridge Disposal picks up your organics cart, they bring it to North Mason Fibers, a privately-owned composting facility in Belfair, to be turned into compost, a valuable resource. This keeps the organic waste we create in Kitsap local, where we return it back to our own soil.

Why use local compost? There are many benefits to using locally-made compost, including:

  • It adds nutrients to soil that plants need.
  • It improves soil structure, which can prevent erosion and water runoff.
  • It can trap pollution in place, keeping it out of local waterways.
  • It stores carbon, which helps climate change.
  • It's produced by local businesses, which supports the local economy.
