The Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board maintains and annually updates the list of weeds considered to be noxious under state law. Each year, the Kitsap County Noxious Weed Control Board must adopt an annual noxious weed list, including any updates from the state list, and detailing any additional weeds selected for control. This local list includes:
- Class A weeds identified at the state level
- Class B species that are designated for control in Kitsap County
- Selected B and C species chosen by the county for local action
The laws and regulation for classifying and managing noxious weeds is outlined in Chapter 17.10 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Chapter 16-750 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

Class A Weeds
Class A weeds are introduced species that are either not found in Washington or exist only in small, isolated populations. Because of their high threat level, eradication is mandatory statewide.
|
Class B Weeds
Class B weeds have limited distribution in certain areas of Washington and are recognized as serious risks to those regions. The state designates which Class B weeds require control in specific counties. Of the non-designated Class B weeds in Kitsap County, the Kitsap County Noxious Weed Control Board can select species for required control.
|
Class C Weeds
Class C weeds tend to be the most widespread. The state lists these weeds, but the Kitsap County Noxious Weed Control Board can select species for required control.
