The Kitsap County Student Success Program provides a structured and supportive environment where local youth explore meaningful career opportunities within county government while developing professional skills and community connections.

Overview/Scope
In partnership with local schools, Kitsap County provides students with hands-on learning experiences that showcase impactful career opportunities within local government. Through department tours, job shadowing, and in-class STEM/STEAM presentations delivered by County employees, students gain valuable insights into public service careers and their community impact.
Department Tours
School presentations
Students are invited to tour the department(s) that align with their CTE/STEM classes in order to gain insight on County positions, department mission, as well as individual roles at the County.
Student Job Shadow
Students come in for a few hours on an agreed upon day to shadow a County position. Staff will share insight on their position, department mission, and role within the county.

Requirements, including Resource Allocation
Matching internal professional staff resources with interest and needs of the classroom, program, or student.
Learning Objectives/Opportunities
The Professional staff designs a simple activity, presentation, or some type of engagement for the students to align with classroom concepts and learning objectives and positions within Kitsap and duties for the aligned professional staff. Providing students the opportunity to explore the types of careers in that field that the county has to offer, understand public service values and the impacts of County public service to the citizens and the community.
Benefits
The benefits of the Student Success program are that it provides exposure to the types of many types of careers offered at the County, demonstrates a commitment from the County to engage in youth, long-term goal is that it will create a pipeline for future talent that were exposed to and are now familiar with county operations, careers and culture. The program also strengthens connections between county government and the next generation of citizens.
