Get an inside look at the people, training, and teamwork behind public safety in Kitsap County.
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) and Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue (CKFR) invite community members to participate in the Kitsap Public Safety Citizens’ Academy.
This interactive program offers an opportunity to learn how local law enforcement and fire and rescue professionals serve our community. Through classroom presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, participants gain a better understanding of public safety operations, the challenges first responders face, and the importance of community partnerships.
What You’ll Learn
The academy covers a variety of topics that highlight the work of law enforcement and fire and rescue personnel.
Law Enforcement
Learn about the responsibilities and operations of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, including:
- KCSO overview, policing, and police reform
- Corrections and the Jail Reentry Program
- K9, SWAT, traffic enforcement, and detective operations
- Alternative use-of-force tactics and decision-making
Fire & Rescue
Explore the equipment, skills, and services that help firefighters and emergency responders protect our community, including:
- Fire service history, growth, and future planning
- Firefighter protective gear, breathing apparatus, hoses, and ladders
- Emergency medical services, CPR, and Stop the Bleed
- Rope operations, vehicle extrication, and technical rescue
The academy concludes with a graduation recognizing participants who complete the program.
Schedule and Locations
The academy has traditionally met on Thursdays from April through June, with graduation held on the final class day. Training takes place at various locations throughout Kitsap County.

- Readiness Center
- Bremerton Police Department Range
