*****Updated with the requirements beginning in Tax Year 2020*****
The deferral program postpones payment of your taxes and/or special assessments and is available on your primary residence and up to five acres** of land. Participants must apply each year with the Assessor's Office.
To qualify, you must be at least 60 years old on December 31 of the year in which you apply or unable to work because of a disability, own and occupy your home in the year you apply and have an annual income of $56,047 or less (proof of income and disability (if applicable) required).
If the property owner meets all of the requirements, the Department of Revenue pays the taxes and special assessments to Kitsap County on behalf of the taxpayer. The deferred amounts paid by the state become a lien and must be repaid to the state, plus interest, when the property ownership is transferred.
**The deferral is available for a primary residence and one acre of land. If local zoning and land use regulations require more than one acre of land per residence in the area where you live, you may be eligible for a property tax deferral on up to five acres of land.
