Stage II Burn Ban In Effect

As of August 5, 2026, the Kitsap County Fire Marshal, in conjunction with the Kitsap County Fire Chiefs' Association, announced a Stage II Outdoor Burn Ban throughout all of Kitsap County.

Fairgrounds Road Closure During the 2026 Kitsap Fair & Stampede

August 24-31, 2026

Visitors are advised that Fairgrounds Road will be closed to through traffic between Tracyton Boulevard and Nels Nelson Road from August 24 through August 31 to support the 2026 Kitsap Fair & Stampede.

Please refer to the parking map for designated entrance points and parking locations. Fair & Stampede attendees should use the marked entrances and event parking areas shown on the map.

Disc Golf Course Update​

Please note that Disc Golf Hole #13 will be closed August 21-31 to accommodate fair setup and event operations. The remainder of the course will remain open unless otherwise posted.

Gordon Field Turf Replacement

Kitsap County Parks is pleased to announce the completion of the Gordon Field 1 synthetic turf replacement project, marking the successful completion of another Capital Improvement Program (CIP) investment that strengthens community recreation, protects public infrastructure, and enhances quality of life for Kitsap County residents.

​Following several weeks of construction, Gordon Field 1 has reopened with a new synthetic playing surface that will serve thousands of athletes, coaches, families, officials, volunteers, and spectators each year. The project replaced the field's aging synthetic turf after it reached the end of its expected service life, ensuring one of the County's busiest athletic facilities remains safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community for years to come.

The new synthetic turf provides a safer, more consistent playing surface while improving durability and reducing long-term maintenance needs. It also helps minimize future disruptions to recreation programming, preserves one of the County's most valuable athletic facilities, and ensures local organizations continue to have access to a premier venue for practices, games, and special events.
Investments like this strengthen the broader community by supporting youth development, encouraging healthy and active lifestyles, creating opportunities for families to gather, and helping attract events that bring visitors to Kitsap County and support local businesses.

Through the Capital Improvement Program, the County continues making strategic investments that extend the life of community assets, improve public safety, reduce long-term costs, and ensure parks continue meeting the needs of current and future generations.

Ribbon-Cutting Celebration

The public is invited to join Kitsap County Parks, community partners, and local athletic organizations for a ribbon-cutting celebration recognizing the completion of the Gordon Field 1 synthetic turf replacement project.

The brief ceremony will celebrate the reopening of one of Kitsap County's busiest athletic facilities and recognize the community investment that will benefit local athletes and park users for years to come.

Gordon Field 1 is once again welcoming athletes, leagues, schools, and community organizations. Kitsap County Parks thanks the community, athletic organizations, and park visitors for their patience throughout construction.

The Gordon Field 1 project is separate from the Gordon Park Master Plan, which focuses on the long-term vision for future park improvements. Updates related to the Master Plan will continue to be shared independently as that planning process moves forward.

Gordon Park Master Plan​

​Gordon Park is located in Central Kitsap and is adjacent to the Kitsap County Fairgrounds & Events Center (1400 Fairgrounds Rd NW, Bremerton, WA 98311). Kitsap County is developing a park master plan to identify improvements that reflect the needs and vision of the community.

Kitsap County Parks would like to thank everyone who participated in the Gordon Park Master Plan survey, workshop, and tabling events. We appreciate the time, feedback, and thoughtful input shared by community members across Kitsap County.

Harper Estuary Restoration project

Kitsap County is beginning construction on the Harper Estuary Barrier Correction project. The project is anticipated to be complete by late fall 2026.

Road closure is required for the entire duration of construction. SE Olympiad Drive will be closed between SE Southworth Drive and Inlet Lane SE. A signed detour will direct all traffic and pedestrians to SE Southworth Drive and Nokomis Road SE.

Kitsap County Departments of Community Development and Public Works are replacing an undersized three-foot culvert that blocks fish passage with a new 120-foot bridge to help restore Harper Estuary. The project also includes an ADA-compliant pedestrian access ramp and stormwater treatment improvements. The restoration will significantly improve habitat for salmon and other aquatic species while enhancing public access and long-term environmental resilience.

What to Expect During Construction

- Construction begins February 2. SE Olympiad Drive will be closed between SE Southworth Drive and Inlet Lane SE. All traffic will use the signed detours on SE Southworth Drive and Nokomis Road SE.

- Night work: Contractor crews will work at night from February 12 through February 25, 2026, to complete early-phase activities. Residents can expect to hear noise during this time. This nighttime work is necessary as it must be completed during low tide.

- After February 15, standard work hours will be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

- One half of the parking lot at Harper Park will be blocked off and unavailable during the project for staging the construction office and equipment.

- Access to driveways will be maintained throughout the project.

- Emergency vehicles will be provided access at all times.

Port Gamble​ Forest Heritage Park

North Gateway Trailhead

We are excited to share that the new North Gateway Trailhead at Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park is open as of 12p on April 10th, 2026.

Located at 3800 NE Carver Dr, just off NE State Hwy 104 via Gamble Way NE. This new park trailhead and parking area provides direct entry into the mountain bike ride park and improves access to the north end of the park, making it easier for visitors to get out and explore. Whether you are heading out for a ride, a hike, or just looking to spend some time outdoors, this new trailhead is designed to help you get there more easily.

The North Gateway Trailhead includes:
- 75 parking stalls
- ADA parking
- A new restroom
- The closest access point to the mountain bike ride park

This project is part of ongoing efforts to improve access, support recreation, and enhance the overall visitor experience at Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park. We are excited to see this space come together and to welcome the community to use it.​

Port Gamble 2025 Stewardship and Restoration

​Kitsap County Parks completed forest stewardship and restoration work at Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park in 2025 to improve forest health, habitat, and long-term resilience.

Project Plan and Report (2025)
This document outlines the project goals, existing conditions, and planned restoration approach.

Post-Treatment Monitoring Report (2026)
This document summarizes what was completed and how the forest is responding following treatment.

These efforts focused on reducing overcrowded trees, improving growing conditions, and supporting healthier forests over time.

Trails in the Ride Park may still remain closed for rehabilitation. Please check the EMBA Port Gamble site (https://www.evergreenmtb.org/trails/port-gamble) for current trail status.​
