New long-term care insurance & premium deduction
Keri Sieckowski, Human Resources

A new long-term care insurance benefit and premium deduction goes into effect in January 2022. The Long-Term Services and Support Act (LTSSA), enacted in 2019, is a state-run program, available for all eligible Washingtonians to use beginning January of 2025.

Like Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML), this premium is funded by employee contribution and requires a payroll deduction from employees’ wages. Beginning January 1, 2022, Washington workers' pay .58% of wages. Examples:
  • Someone making $100,000 per year pays $580 into the trust each year ($48 per month)
  • Someone making $50,000 per year pays $290 into the trust each year ($24 per month)
  • Employers collect the premiums and remit the money to the Employment Security Department (ESD).
  • Eligible participants can use the benefit starting January 2025.
  • Participants have access to a lifetime benefit of $36,500 that is adjusted annually for inflation.
  • The benefit can be used for a range of services and supports.

New cyber security training launched
Doug Bear, Information Services

Information security is about protecting information so that people who should not have access to it cannot distribute, see, change, or delete it. Information security has to do with the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data in any form e.g. electronic, print, or other forms. Knowing how to protect our information is essential in keeping our network functional and efficient. Information Services developed a new training course designed to introduce you to information security and some of the best management practices we ask employees to use.

You may have noticed a notification in Workday enrolling you in this training. It is not mandatory, however it is strongly encouraged for all employees. Visit your Workday Learning Application to access this training under the "Continue Learning" section.
